INSTRUCTIONS FOR REFILLING COLOUR CANON CARTRIDGES
Position of the three filling holes.
Remove the label from the cartridge. Locate the vent holes on the top of the cartridge. Use the gold screw to enlarge the holes. You can use a power drill or hand drill if you prefer. However, you must not let the drill penetrate the cartridge and damage the sponge at the bottom.
Use a toothpick to poke inside the hole and verify the colour sequence if you are not sure the first time.
Load the first syringe with 3ml of ink. In the case of the XL cartridge you should use up to 5ml ink per colour. SLOWLY and Gently inject the ink into the cartridge. Stop if the ink begins to well up from the hole and draw back 1ml of ink
Do not overfill. Clean the top of the cartridge if there is any ink. Repeat steps until all colours have been filled.
The next stage involves priming the cartridge and this is done with a refill clip. Your kit came with the Upright or Flat clip. They both do the same job and are easy to use.
UPRIGHT REFILL CLIP
Sit the cartridge back into the Priming Tool. Use the smaller green rubber for the colour cartridge. (Picture shows clip fitted with the black) When using an upright clip, it’s a tight fit.
FLAT REFILL CLIP
If using the flat clip, use the smaller green rubber in the clip for the colour cartridge. Grip the top of the cartridge and bottom of the clip tightly. Make sure the 2 side lugs at the back of the cartridge fit in the clip (see above picture).
Now start the cartridge priming
Fit the syringe (no needle) in the hole in the bottom of the clip. Gently pull out the syringe plunger about 1cm. You may see some ink in the syringe this ok. This action primes and cleans the head nozzles.
Place cello tape over the top of the cartridge so it covers every hole. Use a pin and make a small hole through the tape for each of the three holes on the cartridge. This action creates a vent hole. The cartridge will not function correctly without it.
Put the cartridge back into the printer and run one or two cleaning cycles until the cartridge begins to print correctly. Do not exceed three cleaning cycles. If the printer does not work you need to reset the cartridge by following the steps below.
Reset cartridge indicator:
PLEASE NOTE: Please refill the cartridge as soon as you see faded colours. Should the cartridge print in streaks, first refill the cartridge, then start a cleaning cycle with your printer software.
